On Sunday, March 24th, a netizen posted a video showing a Zeekr electric vehicle, a brand under Geely Auto, suddenly starting at the 2024 Nanjing International New Energy Automobile Exhibition, injuring multiple people and causing chaos on the scene. Zeekr responded on the same evening, stating that due to mismanagement of the exhibited vehicles, the exhibition car mode was not opened as required, resulting in 5 people being injured on the scene.ccording to Chinese media reports, a video circulating online shows a gray vehicle directly crashing into a BYD new energy vehicle being exhibited in the exhibition hall, with a driver inside the gray vehicle. Beside the vehicle, personnel with work permits and a boy were seen lying on the ground.
A man claiming to be the boy’s relative knocked on the car window and questioned why people inside the car hit others. In the video, someone said, “How can the exhibition vehicle move?” and “The person responsible has been taken to a small room.”
The 5 injured spectators are all out of danger
Zeekr responded on the same evening, stating that at a certain auto show in Nanjing, a Zeekr X exhibition vehicle accidentally started during user experience, causing injuries to 5 spectators on the scene and damage to adjacent booth vehicles. After the incident, the organizers cleared the venue to ensure safety.
Zeekr stated that after the incident, Zeekr’s relevant staff immediately reported to the police and sent the injured for medical treatment, while actively assisting the injured in seeking medical treatment. Currently, it has been confirmed that all 5 spectators are out of danger, with 3 of them discharged after examination, while the other 2 slightly injured individuals are still undergoing further examination in the hospital. We are also actively negotiating with the organizers of the auto show and other relevant parties to properly handle follow-up matters.
Zeekr stated that after self-inspection and confirmation, due to mismanagement of the exhibited vehicles, the exhibition vehicles were not opened in accordance with regulations, remaining in the parked comfort mode with the car keys within the effective range of use. Currently, Zeekr has urgently initiated a nationwide inspection of exhibition vehicles to avoid similar risks.
