Xiaopeng Motors is accused of using cameras in 4S stores to carry out “face recognition”.
Tianyancha App shows that Shanghai Xiaopeng Automobile Sales Service Co., Ltd. was fined 100,000 yuan by Xuhui District Market Supervision and Administration Bureau recently. The punishment was based on the fact that the company purchased 22 cameras with facial recognition capabilities and installed them in their stores, in order to count the number of people entering the store and analyze the ratio of male to female, age, etc.
From January to June this year, a total of 431,623 face photos were collected and uploaded. This behavior violated the Consumer Rights Protection Law as the company did not obtain consumers’ consent or inform them of the purpose of collection and use.
Previously announced earnings data show that in the third quarter of 2021, Xiaopeng Motors delivered 25,666 vehicles, up 199.2% from 8,578 vehicles in the same period of 2020.
Xiaopeng Motors expects to deliver between 34,500 and 36,500 vehicles in the fourth quarter, an increase of approximately 166.1% to 181.5% year-over-year. Its total revenue will range from RMB7.1 billion to RMB7.5 billion, an increase of approximately 149.0% to 163.0% year-over-year. Source
