Wu Yanni’s Response to ‘Makeup Controversy’: Dressing Up in Respect for Fans

Chinese “track and field goddess” Wu Yanni has attracted a large number of fans due to her beautiful appearance, but she has also been criticized multiple times for dressing up carefully before competitions.

In response, Wu Yanni recently stated in an interview that she dresses up beautifully for every competition out of respect for the audience, fans, and the sport itself.

On the evening of the 20th, Wu Yanni participated in the women’s 100-meter hurdles competition at the Xiamen station of the World Athletics Diamond League, completing her first outdoor competition of the year in 13.04 seconds, ranking 10th. The result did not meet the goal she set for herself before the competition.

Wu Yanni mentioned that she had caught a cold these past two days, and the reason for her unsatisfactory performance lies with herself: “They were just too fast. I wanted to keep up with them from the beginning, but I didn’t handle the start well, disrupting my own rhythm, and it was too late to catch up later.”

Regarding the belief held by many that track and field athletes should be “makeup-free,” Wu Yanni stated that everyone has the right to pursue beauty: “Regardless of whether the competition goes well or not, I will dress up for every game because I respect the live audience, my fans who come to watch me compete, everyone on the field, and the competition itself. This also boosts my confidence and encouragement.”

Wu Yanni emphasized that she will remain humble, continue to work hard, and look forward to presenting a different version of herself at this year’s Olympics: “I need to accumulate experience from scratch, strengthen my strengths, compensate for my weaknesses, and improve the training of the starting phase.”

Wu Yanni was born in Zigong, Sichuan in 1997 and has won the national championship several times in the 100-meter hurdles events in China. Her stunning appearance often attracts high attention, and she openly admits to dressing up before every competition.

Regarding external criticisms of her having undergone cosmetic surgery, Wu Yanni stated that she had double eyelid surgery, and her face has become sharper due to weight loss: “They say Wu Yanni has had chin and nose surgery again, I’m very happy, it means my makeup is done well, and I’m very grateful to them.”

Wu Yanni also said: “My chin hasn’t been altered, it’s naturally sharp like this, it used to be chubby. Now that I’ve slimmed down, my body fat percentage is very low.”
