Taiwan’s new richest person has climbed to the top with AI, with a net worth of $9.4 billion, ranking 220th globally, according to data from the Forbes Billionaires List on the 13th.
According to Taiwan’s “China Times” electronic newspaper on the 14th, Lin Baili, Chairman of Taiwan’s Quanta Computer Inc., was born in Shanghai in April 1949. He later moved with his parents to Hong Kong and then to Taiwan for his education. He studied diligently and gained admission to the Electrical Engineering Department at National Taiwan University. In 1988, he co-founded Quanta Computer with his partners and in 1999, it became the world’s leading notebook computer manufacturer. He has been focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) for many years and publicly stated four years ago that AI is the future of Quanta, and its growth in the next ten years will be faster than the past 30 years. Now, he has risen to become the new richest person, largely due to the recent surge in AI-related stocks, which has lifted his wealth to new heights.
On the 14th, Taiwan’s United Daily News reported that the Taiwanese individuals who made it to the list of the world’s top 500 billionaires are Lin Baili, founder of the footwear group Hung Fu Industrial, Lin Shuhong, founder of the petrochemical company Formosa Plastics Group, Terry Gou, founder of Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., Tsai Yanming, founder of Want Want Holdings, and Tsai Ming-hsin, Chairman of Fubon Financial Holding. The report stated that the fluctuations on the billionaire list reflect to some extent the changes in Taiwan’s society and industries. In 2011, the top 10 Taiwanese billionaires were involved in industries such as electronics manufacturing, mobile phones, finance, food, and traditional industries. Over the past 12 years, Taiwanese smartphone brands have declined, while entrepreneurs who successfully positioned themselves in the AI industry have risen to the top of the billionaire rankings.
