Overreliance on Takeout and Alcohol Consumption Linked to Stomach Cancer Diagnosis in 29-Year-Old Man: Doctors Issue Urgent Warning

The advancement of technology has made many things accessible through online platforms on smartphones. For instance, one can order takeout for every meal without needing to cook or go out, but depending too much on outside food is really unhealthy. According to reports from “Jinyang Net”, a young man in Zhejiang, China, almost solely relied on takeout for his meals over the course of a year due to his severe dependence on it, coupled with irregular lifestyle habits, ultimately leading to him being diagnosed with stomach cancer at just 29 years old.

The man, known as Xiao He, was widely acknowledged as a workaholic, passionate and tireless in his work. About a month ago, he started experiencing upper abdominal pain, dizziness, and weakness in limbs, prompting him to undergo gastroscopy at a hospital, where he was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the gastric antrum. At the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery at Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital, doctors thoroughly assessed Xiao He’s condition and fortunately found only enlarged lymph nodes around the lesion without obvious distant metastases. Subsequently, he underwent laparoscopic radical surgery for gastric cancer, during which 2/3 of his stomach and surrounding lymph nodes were removed. Although his recovery went smoothly, he still needs to undergo subsequent adjuvant chemotherapy.

When asked about the cause of gastric cancer, Xiao He’s mother mentioned that her son was very dedicated to his work but rather casual in his personal life. He had been relying almost entirely on takeout for his meals for the past five or six years, often ordering late-night snacks with colleagues after overtime work, and drinking alcohol with barbecue every week. His eating habits were irregular, with frequent cycles of hunger and overeating.

After analyzing Xiao He’s condition, doctors pointed out that gastric cancer has been increasingly affecting younger individuals in recent years, mostly due to their unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as irregular living, unhealthy diet, and the mentality of reluctance to seek medical attention when experiencing discomfort. Doctors reminded young people to try to change their habits of relying on takeout, barbecue, and late-night snacks over the years, and to stay away from smoking and alcohol. If experiencing symptoms such as abdominal distension, abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting, they should actively seek specialized medical examination to avoid delaying treatment.
