The famous Chinese beverage brand Nongfu Spring has recently launched a white peach-flavored soda, with the selling point that the white peaches are produced in Fukushima, Japan, so its materials are suspected to be taken from Fukushima, Japan.

The topic of “Nongfu Spring Soda” was discussed on China’s social media Weibo on June 26. Under this topic, many Chinese netizens pointed out that Nongfu Spring has “produced in Fukushima Prefecture” on the packaging and promotion of the product.

The product introduction states: The Dawn White Peach is produced in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, which is a famous specialty there, but after the nuclear leak in 2011, the water and soil around Fukushima were heavily polluted.

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China issued the “Announcement on Prohibition of Imports of Certain Japanese Food and Agricultural Products” as early as 2011, stipulating that the import of dairy products, vegetables and their products, fruits, aquatic animals and aquatic products from Fukushima, Tochigi, Gunma, Ibaraki, and Chiba Prefectures of Japan would be prohibited from then on.

So far, Nongfu Spring has not yet responded to the matter. The latest update on the official Weibo of Nongfu Spring was published on June 25. Under the comment on Weibo, some Chinese internet users asked about the white peaches produced in Fukushima, but no response was received.
