Kidney beans in Yonghui Supermarket contain excessive pesticides

China’s Guangdong Provincial Market Supervision Administration recently issued a notice on the unqualified status of 7 batches of food (No. 16 in 2021). Among them, the cyromazine in the kidney beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) sold by the Zhongshan Daxin Triangle Store of Guangdong Yonghui Superstores Co., Ltd. does not meet China’s food safety standards; and chloramphenicol in the flavored sausage (Sichuan Spicy Sausage) produced by the Lile Hexing Meat Products Factory in Jianghai District, Jiangmen City does not meet China’s food safety standards.

Cyromazineis a new type of high-efficiency, low-toxicity, nitrogen-containing heterocyclic insecticide, which is often detected in excess of the standard in fruits and vegetables. The reason why the cyromazine in cowpea exceeds the standard may be that vegetable farmers do not understand the safe interval of using pesticides, and thus use or abuse pesticides in violation of regulations.

In addition, in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Agriculture of China, chloramphenicol must not be detected in all food animals. The detection of chloramphenicol in meat products may mainly be due to the use of chloramphenicol in livestock and poultry breeding to prevent the occurrence of epidemics, resulting in chloramphenicol residues in livestock and poultry meat. Long-term consumption of large amounts of chloramphenicol residues may cause intestinal flora imbalance and cause digestive disorders in people.

This notice stated that in accordance with the 2021 Guangdong Food Safety Supervision and Inspection Plan, the Guangdong Provincial Market Supervision Administration has organized random inspections of processed food products, meat products, fruit products, pastries, edible agricultural products, and edible oils, fats and their products, including 6 types of food and 648 Batch samples.

According to China’s food safety standard inspection and judgment, among them, 641 batches of qualified samples and 7 batches of unqualified samples were sampled for inspection items. Microbial contamination, pesticide and veterinary drug residues, and excessive use of food additives were detected.
