Pop diva Coco Lee passed away on July 5, at the age of 48. Ever since Coco’s demise, her husband Bruce Rockowitz has been under scrutiny, with recurring rumors suggesting that he depended on Coco for his affluent lifestyle. Uncertainties about their marital status have also persisted, with reports suggesting they may have been on the verge of divorce. An insider close to Bruce, however, recently decided to challenge these rumors and clarify the truth.
According to the source, Coco and Bruce were indeed separated before her death, but they were not legally divorced. “Divorce procedures had not yet begun, and both parties’ lawyers are still in discussions,” said the insider, confirming that Bruce was still legally Coco’s husband at the time of her passing.
After clarifying that the couple had not yet divorced, the source sought to dispel one of the most rampant rumors: that Bruce was a “phony tycoon,” completely reliant on his wife’s fortune. The insider emphasized that it was, in fact, Bruce who had paid for all of Coco’s expenses during her lifetime, while Coco used all of her income to support her family. This statement starkly contradicts the public narrative.
The insider added, “There are so many reports suggesting that Coco paid for all of Bruce’s expenses. We want to clarify that this is not the truth. Coco never gave Bruce a penny of her income, instead directing it all towards her family. Coco’s personal expenditures – from clothing, food, and transportation to performance outfits, jewelry, handbags, private plane trips, tickets, accommodations – were all covered by Bruce. It is entirely untrue that he was penniless and reliant on Coco.”
Furthermore, the HK$150 million wedding and birthday parties were all funded by Bruce. “Every single expense for the wedding and all birthday parties were covered by Bruce,” the source confirmed.
Reports had earlier suggested that Coco was forced out of her home by Bruce. The source, however, vehemently denied these allegations, stating that Coco had chosen to move to the Four Seasons Hotel on her own accord. He explained, “Last August, when Coco returned to Hong Kong from mainland China and learned about her cancer diagnosis, she was advised by a Feng Shui master that her home was not conducive to female health, particularly considering her disease. Therefore, for health reasons, she chose to move out.”
The source went on to reveal that Bruce was also covering the cost of her stay at the Four Seasons, and that Coco was free to visit her old home whenever she wanted.
After their separation, Bruce took care of all of Coco’s medical and living expenses. Despite accusations of neglect, Bruce’s insider defended him, “They were in constant contact. Whether it was scheduling surgeries or arranging medical visits, Bruce and his team were there to help Coco.”
The insider also clarified that there were no joint assets before Coco and Bruce’s marriage. The properties were all purchased by Bruce and were in his name. There were also no instances of Coco being forced to buy life insurance.
As for whether Bruce’s daughters were indifferent towards Coco, the insider stated that their relationship seemed amicable and they even went on vacations together.
