According to the WeChat official account of Zhejiang University on December 31, famous entrepreneur, creator of the Little Overlord brand, founder of Bubukao, co-founder of vivo and OPPO, and outstanding alum of Zhejiang University, Duan Yongping, has once again made a substantial donation to the university’s education foundation, totaling over 1 billion yuan (RMB), to be used for campus infrastructure development, talent cultivation, discipline construction, and various cultural and sports activities for faculty and students.
Since 2006, Alumnus Duan Yongping has made significant donations at various key stages of Zhejiang University’s development, establishing projects such as the “Zhejiang University Equal Matching Fund,” “Zhejiang University Yongping Student Loan Fund,” “Zhejiang University Yongping Scholarship,” “Zhejiang University Yongping Teaching Award,” and “Zhejiang University School of Information Science and Electronic Engineering Talent Introduction Fund.” He has also supported initiatives like the “Zhejiang University Junsheng Fund” and contributed to the construction of the Zhejiang University Library Foundation Building and the Duan Yongping Teaching Building.
Public records show that Duan Yongping is a renowned entrepreneur, creator of the Little Overlord brand, founder of Bubukao, co-founder of vivo and OPPO, and a notable investor. In the early 2000s, he invested in NetEase and received returns exceeding 100 times. Since 2011, he has heavily invested in companies like Apple and Moutai. Despite experiencing multiple pullbacks of over 30% in these holdings over the course of a decade, he has held onto his shares, with profits consistently exceeding tenfold, earning him the nickname “Chinese Buffett.”
In 2022, Duan Yongping made two donations to his alma mater Zhejiang University, totaling 270 million yuan. In the 2023 Hurun Rich List, he ranked 669th with a wealth of 9 billion yuan.
