China completes 100+ industrial internet platforms and plans digital transformation for manufacturing sector

It was learned from the 2021 Digital Industry High-level Forum on April 28 that China’s manufacturing industry has made positive progress in its digital transformation. Currently, there are more than 100 Chinese industrial Internet platforms with certain industry and regional influence, including those in Shandong, Guangdong, Yangtze River Delta, Chengdu and Chongqing. A pattern of regional coordinated development is initially formed. In the next step, relevant policy plans will be further improved, including the “14th Five-Year Plan” for the integration of informatization and industrialization, and the action plan for the digital transformation of the manufacturing industry. At the same time, the layout of China’s national industrial Internet big data center system will be optimized, and the digital development of industrial clusters and industrial parks will be systematically promoted.

Focusing on accelerating the development of the industrial Internet and promoting the digital transformation of the manufacturing industry, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China has intensively introduced a series of support measures. At the end of last year, the “Industrial Internet + Safe Production” Action Plan (2021-2023)” and the “Industrial Internet Innovation and Development Action Plan (2021-2023)” were issued one after another. The “Fourteenth Five-Year Plan for Intelligent Manufacturing Development” (draft for comments) issued a few days ago also proposed that by 2025, more than 120 industrial Internet platforms with industry and regional influence will be built.

Driven by multiple benefits, the current digital transformation of China’s manufacturing industry has made significant progress. It was learned from the meeting that as of February this year, China had built a total of 792,000 5G base stations, providing strong support for digital transformation. There are more than 100 industrial Internet platforms with certain industry and regional influence, more than 70 million sets of connected devices, and application areas covering more than 40 key industries.

The relevant policy system will be further improved. It is understood that in the next step, relevant Chinese departments will strengthen policy planning, issue the “14th Five-Year Plan” for the integration of informatization and industrialization and the action plan for the digital transformation of the manufacturing industry, and improve the policy planning system and work promotion mechanism. China will accelerate the construction of a comprehensive + characteristic + professional industrial Internet platform system, increase the intensity of 5G network and gigabit optical network construction, continue to promote the transformation of internal and external networks of enterprises, and optimize the layout of China’s national industrial Internet big data center system. The country plans to formulate a digital transformation roadmap, cultivate a number of system solution providers, systematically promote the digital development of industrial clusters and industrial parks, and create a number of intelligent industrial clusters.

Local deployments will also be accelerated. Taking Qingdao as an example, it was learned from the meeting that Qingdao is accelerating the implementation of digital, networked, and intelligent transformation of more than 1,000 industrial enterprises. In the next step, it will give full play to the role of the 20 billion yuan industrial Internet fund, build a global venture capital and venture capital center, and support and guide more financial resources to participate in the development of the digital economy and industrial Internet.

“Developing the industrial Internet and accelerating the digital transformation of the manufacturing industry will promote the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry from quality change, efficiency change and power change.” Xu Xiaolan, president of the China Industrial Internet Research Institute, said that the next step requires breakthroughs in key areas and industries. On the basis of getting through the pain points, China will accelerate the pace of industrial Internet innovation and development, especially to accelerate the cultivation, construction and promotion of industrial Internet platforms, so as to realize the rapid convergence of innovative resources across industries, regions, and time and space, and promote efficient sharing of various element resources, to promote the deep integration of advanced manufacturing and modern service industries.
