China embassy criticizes Reuters for picking only ugly photos of Chinese athletes

“Applause for the athletes’ indomitable efforts, and say no to racial discrimination and prejudice! The second week of the Tokyo Olympics, respect the Olympic spirit.” On August 1, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka posted a post on its Twitter account, criticizing Reuters for its disqualification.

In the second week of the Tokyo Olympics, Chinese athletes performed outstandingly on the field, and the good news was frequent. However, Reuters again made “small moves” in its reports, specifically targeting Chinese athletes with “ugly photos”.

The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka showed several screenshots of Reuters reports. They are Chinese shot putter Gong Lijiao, Australian swimmer McKean, Chinese table tennis player Chen Meng, American gymnast Sunisa Lee, and Chinese weightlifter Hou Zhihui.

It is also a championship report, but Reuters has “bad intentions” with the pictures: Australian and American players have normal expressions and natural expressions, but the pictures of Chinese players have been specially selected for “ugly photos” of the players when they are exerting force or focusing, and their expressions are distorted.

“Where are those defenders of ‘Western media unbiased’ and critics of ‘Chinese Wolf Warriors’ now?” My embassy’s tweet was labeled as criticizing “double standards.”

Since the start of the Olympic Games, Reuters has made more than one “small action” against China on the accompanying map.

The last screenshot in the embassy’s tweet was actually a report on July 24 that Chinese athlete Hou Zhihui won the gold medal in the women’s weightlifting 49 kg class. Reuters picked a picture of Hou Zhihui with an extremely unnatural expression in its report.

On the same day, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka commented on Twitter: “Of all the photos of the competition, Reuters chose this one, which can only show their ugliness. Don’t put politics and ideology above sports, respect Olympic spirit.”

On July 30, Chinese player Zhu Xueying won the gold in the women’s trampoline final, and Liu Lingling won the silver medal in the event. Sure enough, Reuters once again provided “ugly photos” when reporting Zhu Xueying’s victory.

In a tweet on the 31st, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka congratulated the Chinese players on winning the gold and silver. In the picture, they compared the news pictures of People’s Daily and Reuters. It was obvious that the picture could be well-matched, but the Chinese players had the most distorted expression.

As the saying goes, “the eyes are the window of the soul,” such small actions by Reuters are really disgusting. The embassy tweet ironically said: “Reuters has done a great job! I hope your eyes will appreciate the comments below your report.”

In the comment section of Reuters, internet users condemned this malicious behavior.

Some internet users said: “Even if I am not a professional, I can take better photos. Is this the best photo you (Reuters) can get?” “By using such a photo, Reuters’ racism exposed.”

Some internet users supported the Chinese players: “This gymnast (Zhu Xueying) is still elegant and brave in my eyes. The only embarrassing thing is Reuters itself.”
