According to the website of the State Cyberspace Administration of China, in response to the people’s strong complaints about illegal acquisition of mobile apps, over-range collection, excessive claims and other violations of personal information, the State Internet Information Office of China, in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, organized a test on the collection and use of personal information of some apps that are heavily used by the public in common types such as short videos, browsers, job hunting and recruitment.
A total of 105 apps were found to be illegally collecting and using personal information, including well-known mobile apps in China such as Douyin (Chinese TikTok), Kuaishou, LinkedIn, Baidu, and Microsoft Bing.
