Recently, an old man scavenging for a living on the streets of Shenzhen, China was found to be the chairman of a multi-billion dollar enterprise, but now he is living on the streets due to bankruptcy, causing public concern.
According to a Chinese media report on January 22, Zhang Shiwei, head of the charity organization “Let Love Go Home”, pointed out that Jiang Yuanchen (75), who scavenged on the streets of Shenzhen, was once an entrepreneur, but was unable to face his own bankruptcy a few years ago, and denied that Jiang Yuanchen had abandoned his wife and children when he was young and rich.
Zhang Shiwei managed several hundred employees at the most in the past. The report cited the business search platform Tianyancha as saying that Jiang Yuanchen had served as chairman of three food companies, two of which have now been revoked and the other is listed as a company in default. Jiang Yuanchen is also embroiled in a private lending dispute and has now been restricted from high spending.
Jiang Yuanchen said that after the bankruptcy, he had wanted to return to Shenzhen to make a comeback, he made an unsuccessful fight before scavenging in the streets, and said he could not remember how long he had been wandering the streets of Shenzhen. He also admitted that his family had contacted him, is his own reluctance to return home, and did not divorce his wife.
Zhang Shiwei noted that volunteers found Jiang Yuanchen on the street in April 2021 and hoped to offer him help. Jiang Yuanchen initially refused to go home because he felt so down and out, but eventually, accompanied by volunteers, he took a high-speed train to Qingdao North Station, where his family was waiting to pick him up and take him back home to Yantai.
Jiang Yuanchen and his wife have two sons and a daughter. According to his son, several of their siblings never abandoned Jiang Yuanchen, and had contact with him in previous years but then lost touch, and did not know Jiang Yuanchen’s descent.
It is understood that one of Jiang Yuanchen’s sons is a graduate of a prestigious university and has a decent job. He replied to the volunteers that Jiang Yuanchen failed his wife and children when he was young, but he did not want to mention the pain of the past. Source
