On April 9th, a woman from Chongqing, China, reported that her husband nearly had his throat slashed when he found a razor blade hidden inside a bar of Safeguard soap while taking a shower.
The woman shared on social media that her husband felt sudden pain while using the soap, initially assuming it might contain wire or other foreign objects. She said, “Then, when we rinsed it with water, it became completely exposed. I wanted to cut it open to see how big it was, but he told me not to touch it, to leave it there to avoid accusations of spreading rumors.” She further expressed relief that an adult discovered the anomaly, as the consequences could have been dire if a child had used it.
According to reports by the Xiaoxiang Morning Post, the woman mentioned that fortunately, her husband was not injured. She subsequently lodged a complaint via the consumer complaint hotline (12315) and reported the incident to the police.
Details from the police report indicated that the soap was purchased from a convenience store about a month prior, and after some time of use, the blade was discovered inside. The origin of the blade couldn’t be determined. The police advised the complainant to contact the market supervision bureau. Safeguard’s official response was sought, and the incident was documented.
The woman stated that she provided the purchase record to the convenience store, and the owner is assisting in contacting the distributor. She added that they had always used Safeguard products at home and had never encountered such an issue before. She emphasized that she wasn’t seeking compensation, stating, “We don’t have malicious intentions, we’re just raising awareness.”
A representative from Safeguard’s hotline assured that their products undergo strict quality testing before leaving the factory and comply with national hygiene and quality regulations to ensure product safety.
