The Guangzhou Municipal Market Supervision Bureau recently announced 33 batches of unqualified food samples from random inspections, nominally 1 batch of “Kaizhi” Hawthorn Yeast Solid Drink and 1 batch of “Angel Newt” yeast protein powder produced by Angel Yeast Co., Ltd. Protein solid beverages were “on the list” because of their sodium and potassium content. The official customer service of Angel Yeast Health Division explained that the content of the relevant ingredients did not match the label value because of fluctuations in the background value of the raw materials. The batch of products involved is a labeling issue, not a quality and safety issue, and the company is already dealing with it.
According to the notification, the “Kaizhi” Hawthorn Yeast Solid Drink (60g (3g/bag×20bag)/box) produced by Angel Yeast Co., Ltd. and sold at Xiaobao Baby Products Store in Huacheng District, Guangzhou City, 2019 /09/07), the detected value of sodium is 67.9mg/100g, which exceeds the product label value (29mg/100g) by about 134%.
The Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Market Supervision stated that the “General Rules for the Nutrition Labeling of Prepackaged Foods in National Food Safety Standards” (GB 28050-2011) stipulates that the actual content of such nutrients should not be higher than 120% of the value indicated on the product packaging label; When the nutrition ingredient is marked as “0”, its nutrient content value shall not exceed the limit value of “0”. The actual detected content of the sample did not meet the product labeling requirements.
Another batch of “Angel Newt” yeast protein powder protein solid beverage (yeast protein type, 500 g/can, produced by Angel Yeast Co., Ltd. and sold at Xinhua Yingde Pregnancy and Infant Products Store in Huadu District, Guangzhou) 2019/11/12), the detected value of potassium is 166mg/100g, which is about 46% of the product labeling value (362mg/100g).
According to the Guangzhou Municipal Market Supervision Bureau, GB 28050-2011 stipulates that the actual content of such nutrients should not be less than 80% of the value indicated on the product packaging label. The actual detected content of the sample did not meet the product labeling requirements.
In response to the above-mentioned unqualified batches of products, a reporter from the Beijing News contacted the official customer service of Angel Yeast Health Division on April 17. The company stated that the sodium and potassium components in the two batches of solid beverages involved were brought in as raw materials, and were not added during the production process. Due to the different background values of ingredients used in different batches of products, the content of ingredients fluctuates. Regarding the nutrient labeling issue, the customer service explained that sodium and potassium content is optional labeling items. The batch of products involved is a labeling issue, not a quality and safety issue, and the company is already dealing with it.
