Quanzhou Municipal Market Supervision and Administration Bureau of Fujian Province announced via its website on May 12 the quality supervision and random inspection information of cell phone power adapters (chargers) sold in Quanzhou in 2020.
20 batches of unqualified samples were detected. The main problems of unqualified samples were: marking and description, creepage distance, electrical clearance and insulation penetration distance, in-line equipment, and electric strength. Among them, cell phone chargers produced by Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as: Huawei) are impressively listed.
Sampling inspection results show that the specification model of this switching power adapter produced by Huawei is HW-050450C00, and the trademark shows HUAWEI. The unqualified items are creepage distance, electrical clearance and insulation penetration distance, and the unqualified degree is: serious. The inspection agency is the Fujian Institute of Product Quality Inspection.
It is understood that the creepage distance refers to the charged area between the two conductive parts measured along the insulating surface. In different use cases, the insulating material around the conductor is polarized, resulting in a charged area of the insulating material.
Continuous complaints involving Huawei product quality and after-sales service in China
In fact, complaints about Huawei products are not uncommon in the Chinese market. On the Black Cat complaint platform, there are more than 8,000 complaints about Huawei. The content of complaints includes product quality and after-sales service.
Some Chinese consumers said that the Huawei Mate X folding phone, which was purchased for more than 40,000 yuan, had a gap of about 45 mm in the upper half of the external screen under normal use without falling or hitting. After that, the phone suddenly began to leak and black screen appeared. However, Huawei refused the warranty on the grounds that there was a small crack on the upper half of the external screen and asked consumers to spend more than seven thousand yuan to replace the screen. “It is a rogue to refuse to provide warranty for users because of their own product quality problems.”
There are also Chinese consumers who reported that the phone crashed after less than three months after the purchase, and then the camera and microphone also had problems.
Someone complained that on March 6, 2021, he went to the Huawei after-sales service repair center in Shihezi. The test found that the mobile phone motherboard was damaged, and opening the App always crashed. He communicated with Huawei’s consumer service hotline many times, and the senior engineer replied: 1. The phone is still useful, a small gift can be provided for compensation; 2. Return to the factory for repair at your own expense. This complaint currently shows that Huawei has communicated with users and reached an agreement on the black cat complaint.
In addition, complaints involving Huawei include automatic deductions, authorized stores to increase prices for mobile phones, and screen quality issues.
Quality problems of Huawei’s phones were exposed by CCTV
In addition, as early as 2016, a piece of information reported by China CCTV’s “Consumption Propositions” column stated that among the cell phones sampled by the former Jiangsu Administration for Industry and Commerce, many mobile phones of Huawei, Lenovo and other brands were unqualified. Among them, according to YD/T 1538-2014 standard, Huawei cell phones were found to be substandard in receiving sensitivity and frequency characteristics in audio tests. The unqualified models are Huawei Enjoy 5S and so on.
After the CCTV report, a person in charge of Huawei’s consumer business responded: “As the world’s third largest smartphone manufacturer, Huawei’s mobile phones are sold globally, so the quality standards meet the standard requirements of all countries where Huawei phones are sold. Huawei will submit an application for re-inspection to an authoritative testing agency.” Regarding the YD/T 1538-2014 standard, the person in charge stated that the YD/T 1538-2014 standard is an industry-recommended standard, not a national mandatory standard.
