Chinese manufacturers export anti-pandemic medical supplies to India at cost prices

After more than 300,000 new confirmed cases in a single day in India for 9 consecutive days, it exceeded 400,000 for the first time on May 1, breaking the record of the country’s highest number of new cases in a single day since the outbreak.

“Lack of vaccines, lack of oxygen, lack of protective clothing, India’s medical supplies are short of everything.” A number of Chinese medical professionals told the reporter that the prices of masks and oxygen are highly speculated in India.

Chen Hongyan, secretary-general of the Medical Device Branch of China Medical Supplies Association, said that China’s medical supplies are of high quality and low price, and the purpose of exporting medical supplies to India at a low price is to support the global fight against the pandemic, which is also the pride of Chinese medical device manufacturers.

Oxygen and other equipment are in short supply in India

Cao Jianbiao is the chairman of Shenzhen Huateng Medical Engineering Equipment Co., Ltd. The monitors produced by the company are exported to India and supply half of the public hospitals in India. Since April, the pandemic situation in India has intensified, and orders for medical supplies such as monitors and oxygen generators from Cao Jianbiao have skyrocketed.

Cao Jianbiao, who should have been pleased, was helpless. Cao Jianbiao told the reporter, “The pandemic in India is more serious than reported in the news. Some of our company’s agents in India are all infected with the coronavirus. The kind of household oxygen cylinders cannot be used for medical purposes, and medical equipment such as oxygen in Indian hospitals is now very scarce. ”

Cao Jianbiao’s company received orders for more than 4,000 monitors from India in April, but due to the company’s limited production capacity, there are still 2,000 units that have not been delivered. In addition, the Indian hospital is severely deficient in oxygen equipment. The Indian side requires his company to supply dozens of oxygen generators a week, and this is also an order that he cannot complete.

“Although India is a free public medical system, the domestic supply of its medical equipment system is basically blank. For example, for monitors, basically half of the hospitals in the country use ours, and 90% of other medical equipment are imported.” Cao Jianbiao told the reporter.

“As public hospitals have run on medical resources for free treatment. Public hospitals are crowded with people, and the number of severely ill patients with COVID-19 disease has increased. Almost every bed needs oxygen equipment. The original 1,000 beds may require 100 oxygen supplies, but now 1,000. The beds all need oxygen, and there is not enough oxygen. Some oxygen pipes do not have oxygen.”

The oxygen in the Indian hospital is in a hurry. Some critically ill patients cannot be admitted to the hospital and are treated at home. This is why the price of household oxygen cylinders was so high in India that many people still died because of lack of oxygen.

The reason why the order for oxygen generators in India has skyrocketed is that the oxygen generators produced by Cao Jianbiao’s company are the oxygen generation systems of medical centers, which is equivalent to setting up an oxygen station in a hospital, which can convert air into oxygen and its oxygen concentration. Keeping above 90% can effectively alleviate the problem of hypoxia in Indian hospitals. But the problem is that the construction of such a large-scale oxygen production system does not happen overnight.

According to Cao Jianbiao, because oxygen concentrators are also in high demand in China, China had 2 trillion yuan in infrastructure last year, and tens of millions of domestic medical orders have not yet been delivered. India’s orders are expected to be delivered one after another next month.

Chinese pharmaceutical companies export supplies to India at cost prices

In addition to oxygen generators, exporting masks to India is also the choice of many Chinese medical practitioners. Huang Yuhao is the chairman of Anhui Box Health Technology Co., Ltd. The COVID-19 virus inactivated mask produced by his company can be reused 60 times and can effectively kill the COVID-19 virus attached to the mask. It has obtained domestic and foreign inspection and registration.

As the pandemic is raging around the world, the COVID-19 virus inactivated masks developed by Huang Yuhao’s company are selling well in the United States, Germany, Brazil and other countries. After the pandemic in India intensified, their company’s products attracted the attention of many families in India, and even people who called themselves the Modi family came to him to buy masks.

In addition to the big Indian family, small Indian agents looking for Huang Yuhao to buy masks are in an endless stream. “Some Indian businessmen find us, they just ask for the cheapest one.” Huang Yuhao introduced.

“In China, a mask that costs 2 cents when exported to India can be bought for 2~3 yuan, the price is tens or even 100 times.” Huang Yuhao said, Chinese medical equipment companies export Indian products, not for profit. The purpose is more to assume the responsibility of the global fight against the pandemic.

Huang Yuhao told the reporter that the company donated masks to overseas Chinese and Chinese in India through various forms, worth about 5 million yuan. In addition to donations, Huang Yuhao’s company is exporting masks to Indian official channels through diplomatic channels.

Huang Yuhao told the reporter that the company’s coronavirus-inactivated masks are sold for 18 yuan each in Europe and the United States, while they are sold to India for only 7 yuan each. Not only masks, but the company also issued an announcement that the prices of all the company’s products sold in India are 30%-50% lower than those in other countries.

Cao Jianbiao also said that the oxygen generators sold to India were exported to India at cost prices without a penny increase.

There is no easy way for India to “save itself”

Lack of vaccines, lack of protective clothing, lack of oxygen… The complete shortage of medical supplies has become a problem that India must face directly under the pandemic.

“For many years, India has paid attention to the development of high-end industries, and the construction of masks, protective clothing, oxygen and other industries is not perfect. From last year to now, it has been difficult for India to take the path of self-help by the industry.” Many Chinese domestic pharmaceutical circles expressed the same sigh.

Looking back at the beginning of the pandemic last year, China also encountered a shortage of medical supplies such as masks. However, this situation has been quickly resolved as the nation’s united efforts to fight the pandemic. On January 25, 2020, the national production capacity of masks was 8 million, and on February 29, the production capacity of masks was 116 million…In just 35 days, the daily output of masks in China increased by about 13.5 times.

Like China, can India rely on “industrial self-help” to turn the crisis into peace? Huang Yuhao told the reporter that India does not have a complete industrial chain, let alone oxygen, it will not be easy to expand the production capacity of medical masks in the short term.

A mask production line includes 1,300 parts such as gears, chains, rollers, and rollers. And in China, it has strong manufacturing capabilities, sufficient production space, perfect quality control system, a large number of high-quality talents, and a strong R&D and production system… to provide a solid foundation for the production of masks.

In addition, among the more than 500 major industrial products in the world, China’s output of more than 220 products ranks first in the world. It has accumulated rich management experience and a complete quality control system, and can quickly adjust and expand its assembly lines according to market needs. China also has More than 170 million people with higher education or various professional skills, etc. These have all converged into the strong manufacturing capacity of the “No. 1 Manufacturing Country”.

Sadly, India has none of these.

On April 29, according to news from the Indian newspaper, Huck, the deputy spokesperson of the UN Secretary-General, stated that India refused to rush for UN aid and claimed to be a “perfect system.” On April 30, Indian media reported that the Indian Navy had sent four warships to other countries to transport oxygen back to India to support India’s pandemic prevention.

Chinese medical professionals such as Huang Yuhao and Cao Jianbiao believe that no one is immune to the community of shared future for mankind in the face of the pandemic, and everyone should make every effort to fight the pandemic.
