China AED Industry and Market Analysis Report 2021-2026

1. Analysis of the development status of China’s automatic external defibrillator (AED) industry: China’s national policies support the rapid development of the industry

Sudden cardiac death (SCD), commonly known as cardiac arrest, is one of the important diseases that endanger human health. Among them, 80%-90% of SCD is caused by mental fibrillation (VF). At present, defibrillation is the only effective way to prevent sudden death from ventricular fibrillation. Traditional defibrillators are complicated to operate, and their defibrillation timing and discharge volume are generally judged and operated by professional doctors based on the measured ECG waveform under hospital conditions.

The automatic external defibrillator (AED) is a portable medical device that can diagnose specific heart rate irregularities and give defibrillation shocks. It is an instrument specifically designed for emergency patients who are dying of sudden death.

1) The aging trend in China is obvious

With the influence of China’s family planning policy, Chinese society is showing an aging trend, and this trend is accelerating year by year. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics of China, the number of people aged 65 and over in China has reached 180 million in 2019, and the proportion of people aged 65 and over has also reached a new high of 12.6%.

The elderly are often people with a high incidence of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. The lack of management may induce cardiovascular disease, and this has also led to unprecedented demand in the AED market.

2) China’s AED industry maintains relatively rapid development

In 2013, Mindray released China’s first biphasic wave defibrillator product; and in the same year, Article 184 of the “General Principles of the Civil Law of the People’s Republic of China” clearly stipulated that “the victim is damaged due to voluntary emergency relief. Yes, the rescuer shall not bear civil liability”. The issuance of this standard has made AED products better popularized in China and cleared legal obstacles.

With China’s emphasis on AED configuration, the AED market has also shown rapid growth; by 2019, the size of China’s AED market has reached about 1.11 billion yuan.

3) Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces lead the country

According to data from Qichamao, from the perspective of regional distribution, Guangdong and Jiangsu have the largest number of companies related to automatic external defibrillator (AED); the second tier is based on six provinces, including Shandong, Zhejiang, and Shanghai. the Lord. The third step is based on 21 provinces and municipalities including Hubei, Anhui and Fujian.

2. China’s automatic external defibrillator (AED) industry development prospect forecast: the market size in 2026 may be close to 3 billion yuan

In 2019, the State Council of China promulgated the “Healthy China Action (2019-2030)” clearly stated the requirements for the proportion of future cardiopulmonary resuscitation trainers, and clearly pointed out the improvement of the equipment standards for first aid facilities in public places. In addition, the 15th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress passed the review of the Basic Medical Hygiene and Health Promotion Law of the People’s Republic of China, which added the corresponding AED regulations: public places should be equipped with necessary first aid equipment and facilities in accordance with the regulations. It is hoped that on the basis of comprehensive conditions such as scale, personnel situation, and willingness to set up, AEDs will be deployed in public places in a reasonable manner to gradually form a network. The National Health Commission of China will actively further strengthen cooperation with the Red Cross Society and other departments, coordinate relevant departments to increase investment in AED allocation, and carry out popular training for AED and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

From a single province perspective, in October 2020, the Beijing Transportation Commission and the Beijing Municipal Health Commission announced that Beijing will start the deployment of automatic external defibrillators (hereinafter referred to as AED) in rail transit stations. By the end of 2020, AED configuration for 104 stations on 7 lines was expected to be completed. By the end of 2022, all rail transit stations in Beijing will achieve full coverage of AED equipment, and the first-line station personnel training rate will reach over 80%.

In this context, it is predicted that the market size of China’s automated external defibrillator (AED) industry will reach 2.92 billion yuan in 2026, and the industry’s development prospects are bright.
