China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) announced on January 13 the production and sales of the car market in 2020, in which data showed that the cumulative production of the Chinese car market for the year 2020 was 25.225 million vehicles, down 2% year-on-year; while the cumulative sales of the Chinese car market for the year 2020 was 25.311 million vehicles, down 1.9% year-on-year. In addition, the CAAM forecasts that sales will exceed 26 million vehicles in 2021, up 4% year-on-year.
In terms of specific data, China’s auto market production in December was 2.84 million vehicles, up 5.7% year-on-year. In terms of sales, China’s auto market sales in December were 2.831 million vehicles, up 6.4% year-on-year.
In the field of passenger cars, the cumulative passenger car sales in the Chinese auto market for the year 2020 are 20.178 million vehicles, down 6% year-on-year; in terms of market segments, the cumulative sales of cars in the Chinese auto market for 2020 are 9.275 million vehicles, down 9.9% year-on-year; the cumulative sales of MPVs total 1.054 million vehicles, down 23.8% year-on-year; the sales of SUVs completely overtake the cars, reaching 9.461 million vehicles, up 0.7% year-on-year, and was the only segment in the passenger car segment that grew year-on-year.
In the new energy sector, the Chinese car market will sell 1.367 million new energy vehicles in 2020, an increase of 10.9% year-on-year. Among them, the cumulative sales of new energy passenger cars are 1.246 million, up 14.6% year-on-year; the cumulative sales of new energy commercial vehicles are 121,000, down 17.2% year-on-year.
In addition, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers predicts that China’s new energy vehicle sales will reach 1.8 million vehicles in 2021, up 40% year-on-year.
