In Tianjin, a distressing incident recently took place as 15 cats allegedly fell from a residential building, leading to an unsettling scene that has sparked widespread attention.
According to multiple Chinese media sources, the cats fell to their deaths from the 16th floor of a building, causing considerable alarm among residents. The police, after investigating, indicated that the cats belonged to a household that had about 20-30 cats but was often not at home. They entrusted a relative with the care of the cats who, with the assistance of firefighters, attempted to gather the animals. Some cats got frightened during this process and jumped out of the open windows. The police confirmed that there was no evidence of deliberate harm caused to the animals.
This tragic event reportedly happened around 8 p.m. on July 22nd, at the Shengning Residence in Tianjin’s Hebei District, where the 15 cats met their unfortunate end from the 16th floor. The aftermath was a horrifying sight, with deceased cats scattered across the area.
A volunteer from an animal protection association in Tianjin’s Dongli District suggested that several residents believed the cats were “thrown out by the owner”. Despite many residents pleading “stop throwing”, the sight of cats falling continued.
Post-incident, local police and firefighters were sent to the scene, and a cleanup of the cat remains was organized. The police reiterated that the household in question was not home and had left their 20-30 cats in the care of a relative. This relative sought help from firefighters when trying to catch the cats. During this process, some cats were scared and jumped out of the open kitchen windows. They again emphasized that there was no deliberate harm inflicted upon the cats.
Netizens responded with various concerns, such as questioning why the windows weren’t closed if the cats could possibly jump out, criticizing the idea of keeping 20-30 cats without securing the windows, and expressing dismay over the tragic loss of innocent lives.
